Dr. Nichole Young-Lin is a board certified obstetrician-gynecologist (OB/GYN) at Stanford Health Care’s Menlo Medical Clinic

Her training has taken her around the San Francisco Bay Area, starting with a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley followed by an M.D. with Distinction (MDwD) from the University of California, San Francisco. She completed her OB/GYN residency at Stanford University and has remained an Adjunct Faculty Clinical Instructor. She also received an M.B.A. with a Certificate in Health Sector Management from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

My Journey to the Bay Area

I was born on the beautiful island of Taiwan and came to the Bay Area when I was 7. My childhood experiences have instilled in me the importance of diversity and inclusivity. Growing up in Fremont, California, and raised by my extended family, I learned that families come in many different forms, a belief that still resonates with me today. Moreover, like many immigrants, I worked hard to learn a new language, embrace life in America, and simultaneously cherish my Chinese heritage.

My Commitment to Women’s Health

I didn’t plan to become a physician. But while writing my public health honors thesis during college, I was appalled to learn that women were dying of excessive blood loss after giving birth, when five 10-cent pills of a drug called misoprostol could save their lives. This inspired me to found a student group focused on improving access to essential medications for maternal health, which later grew into an international women’s health non-profit organization (read more here). Through my global health work, I realized that I wanted to be a woman working to improve the lives of other women. That’s when I decided to go to medical school with the goal of becoming an obstetrician-gynecologist.

My Values as a Health Care Provider at Menlo Medical

Stanford’s Menlo Medical is a special blend of private and academic practice. As a physician, I strive to provide compassionate, patient-centered care grounded in shared decision-making and in listening to patients. I am committed to building trust through honesty, transparency, and respect. My goal is always to deliver the outstanding care to my community that I would want and expect for my own family and myself.
